Where were you working before you started Alchemy?
Please give some details about your role and prospects. Before joining Alchemy, I worked as a full-stack engineer on a Rating product at another Insurance company where I stayed for 9 years. I developed experience in front-end development, back-end development, DevOps, and also Agile methodology.
What were your career goals at the time of applying to Alchemy?
I wanted to find somewhere that I could educate myself more about insurance so I could become an expert in the field. I have found at Alchemy really encourages ongoing learning and education and provides the resources to do so.
It was important to me that I could contribute to the growth of a company. Alchemy is still growing rapidly and as a Senior Technical Analyst, it’s a great opportunity to coach and mentor the Academy recruits.
In the four months I have worked for Alchemy I have achieved the Professional Level Certification in Guidewire PolicyCenter as well as CII certifications.
Coming in at Gold level has boosted me into a position with more responsibility than I have had in previous companies. I am also given more freedom to work independently as there is no middle management at Alchemy.
Have you discovered anything about yourself since you started with Alchemy?
I’ve discovered that I am able to pick up new skills and knowledge quickly. Guidewire is a brand new software to me but I was able to work through the training at a good pace as I had previous insurance software experience.
It was a pleasant surprise that a lot of the skills I gained in previous roles have all been transferable.
What’s your favourite perk at Alchemy?
The salaries at Alchemy are extremely competitive, which is boosted by the bonus scheme they have in place.
From the small things like a fully stocked kitchen in the office to the bigger things like social events, like AlchemyFest we had in the summer.
What makes Alchemy stand out from other companies?
There’s a great culture at Alchemy which focuses on helping each other out and continuous self-improvement. As there is no middle management, mentoring plays a big part in how we work.
The speed of progression and rate of pay rises at Alchemy is far ahead of anything I have seen before. I have been in the office occasionally over the past while and the atmosphere has been friendly and vibrant.
The Leadership team are transparent and always in communication with the wider teams. We have an All Hands call every other week and are kept up to date with financials and upcoming projects.
Where do you see yourself in the next 2 years?
I am still in my first 6 months at Alchemy but I would see myself in a Technical Lead role here in the next 2 years.
