Aimee joined Alchemy in June as an Experienced Software Developer, having previously worked as an Exstream Application Developer for 2 years. In her role she was responsible for sprint planning, delegating tasks, offering training and check in calls with team members.

Since joining Alchemy, Aimee has gained Professional certifications in Guidewire PolicyCenter and Chartered Institute of Insurance certificates. She is currently on a project as a Developer for a Dublin based project which is expanding Guidewire’s software offerings across Europe.

Where were you working before you started Alchemy? Please give some details about your role and prospects.

Before joining Alchemy, I worked as an Exstream Application Developer for almost 2 years. I gained an insight into a full-time working life, took part in a 6-month graduate scheme and went on to take on more responsibilities.

As a team lead, I was responsible for sprint planning, delegating tasks amongst team members which really developed my Agile experience. I offered training and assistance, and organising weekly training/check-in calls for further analysis.

What were you career goals at the time of applying to Alchemy?

It is important for me to feel valued in what I do, and I have found that with Alchemy. My main career goals are active learning, I want to become an expert in my field as well as be cross-trained across other Guidewire platforms. Alchemy is still a rapidly growing company and contributing to the growth of a company is very rewarding.

How has your role developed and how have you grown professionally since starting with Alchemy?

Since starting Alchemy almost 4 months ago, I have achieved numerous qualifications. I have since joined a project based in Dublin where I have a position with more responsibility and independence.

Have you discovered anything about yourself since you started with Alchemy?

I have discovered that even though I worked at an insurance company previously, I had very little knowledge of the insurance industry as a whole. Alchemy’s approach to learning is unique as you get an understanding of every aspect of what you’re working with, no matter what role you take.

Guidewire has been a completely new software for me, I’ve picked up new skills and knowledge quickly.

What’s your favourite perk at Alchemy?

Alchemy’s company values are what makes it so attractive, it’s hard not to love a company that puts so much money and effort into the upskilling of their staff. The salaries are extremely competitive, and the offering of a bonus scheme quarterly is very rewarding.

There are a vast number of perks with Alchemy, from the quick rate of progression to the amazing healthcare packages.

Life at Alchemy is a lot more fun and fast-paced, there are countless social events, and I even got the opportunity to attend Alchemyfest In the summer.

What makes Alchemy stand out from other companies?

Alchemy goes above and beyond to make sure all staff are welcomed and well looked after. Since joining, I have been allocated a mentor as part of the Mentoring Programme. This has been extremely beneficial and helpful for me since beginning the project and getting settled into my new role.

Being a woman in tech, it is a massive motivation of mine to encourage the next generation of women to consider a career in STEM. It’s so important to me to work for a company that not only focuses on making the workplace better for women but holds it as a priority.

This can be proven by Alchemy ranking highly in the UK Best Workplaces For Women list in 2021.

Where do you see yourself in the next 2 years?

I am still relatively new to Alchemy but in the next two years, I see myself being comfortable enough with the software and confident enough to help others learn and achieving a fulfilling career in an exciting marketplace with access to ongoing learning and education.
