1. Can you share your journey to becoming a Technical Lead at Alchemy?
My journey to becoming a Technical Lead at Alchemy is a testament to my passion for continuous learning. I began in 2019 as a Technical Analyst at Alchemy after earning an Honours degree in Computer Science from Atlantic Technological University. Within two years, I advanced to Technical Lead, driven by my love for technology and leadership. Achieving the Guidewire Integration Certification at 21 was a pivotal moment, marking me as one of Europe's first female technical consultants in that field.
2. What are some key milestones during your time at Alchemy?
A significant milestone was the recent upgrade of our software system from Guidewire version 9 to 10, which I orchestrated and successfully delivered for the PolicyCenter track. Additionally, I created a framework that connects car insurance systems with the UK’s regulatory central database, enhancing data accuracy and fraud prevention that directly impacts insurance premium prices. Furthermore, with my team, we launched several new car insurance brands, significantly broadening the company's market presence and offerings, including brands that are now available for quotes on popular aggregator websites.
3. How has your role evolved, and how has it impacted the company and others?
Since joining Alchemy, my role has evolved from a Technical Analyst to a Technical Lead, enabling me to lead transformative projects and mentor junior team members. This evolution has allowed me to drive digital transformation initiatives and significantly contributed to the company’s overall success and innovation in the insurance sector. I am proud to be part of this journey.
4. Can you discuss the importance of supporting women in tech and the insurance industry?
Supporting women in tech and insurance is not just a matter of diversity; it's a matter of innovation. As part of the Women in Alchemy network, I advocate for gender equality and mentor both men and women in tech. By encouraging diverse perspectives, we can create a more inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered. I have also presented at universities to inspire students to pursue careers in insurtech, giving them visibility into the opportunities in this field.
5. What are your thoughts on the future of technology in the insurance industry?
The future of technology in the insurance industry is incredibly promising, with digital transformation, data analytics and AI playing pivotal roles. By leveraging these technologies, insurers can enhance operational efficiency, improve customer experience, and drive innovation. At Alchemy, we are at the forefront of this transformation, delivering cutting-edge solutions that set new industry standards.
