Exploring Amechi's journey through the evolving landscape of insurance technology, this blog delves into his reflections on leadership, modernisation in the London Market, and the role of Alchemy and Alchemy London Market in driving digital transformation and fostering innovation.

1. Reflecting on your career journey, how did you navigate your path to becoming a leader in insurance technology, and how has your background influenced your approach?

Since my early twenties I’ve been focused on the connection of people and insurance technology. However, it wasn't until I established my first start up, I truly understood the complexity and importance of leadership. I came to realise very early on, that effective leadership revolves not solely around the leader but primarily around those being led. It's about understanding your team and blending your experiences with theirs to drive the best outcomes. After 20 years I’m still trying new methods and approaches. It’s an ongoing process.

As my career progressed, I found myself collaborating and interacting with C-suite teams. This experience gave me access to a range of leadership styles. Some good, some not so good. I learned that as an organisation grows, to lead effectively, you must adapt and cultivate a variety of methods suitable for the challenges you and your team will face, together. The ability to “read the room”, trust your team and delegate are key.

Throughout my journey, I have learned, you have to adapt. You must create a place where people can learn, grow and thrive in positive ways and that stems from great leadership. Presently, I oversee a team of delivery focused management consultants servicing the London and International Specialty Markets. I’ve never personally performed any of the day-to-day activities my team deliveries to clients and I do not have their depth of expertise. However, appreciating and respecting my teams’ strengths and capabilities, enables me, I hope, to be an effective and respected leader.
