Today marks exactly 3 months since we launched Alchemy and our first Academy at NWRC. While it feels like yesterday, so much has happened in that time.
We feel so lucky to have been able to recruit the fab first 20 Alchemists into our team. From day one of the Academy, we had a good feeling about the group. They showed enthusiasm for the Alchemy values and a strong work ethic which has paid off massively for them and the Leadership team.
During the Academy and as the office began to take shape, we were delighted to welcome the recruits to Alchemy HQ to have a look around. Had it not been for these visits, #DonutFriday may never have been born! We are thankful for this but our waist lines may not be…
We were delighted to give job offers to all 20 of the Academy recruits, which is a fantastic achievement and was celebrated with cake, champagne and of course, custom Alchemy gold balloons!
Our Director and Founder, John Harkin had the honour and privilege of delivering the commencement speech at the NWRC Graduation in October. As an alumni of the College, this was a very poignant speech for John as it marked his career having come full circle. The speech and Q&A with BBC’s Mark Carruthers were very well received as he encouraged the graduates to “never stop learning” and to be the “best versions” of themselves.
Our new recruits quickly found out that their software certification training would be demanding and challenging, but with hard work support from our third party providers, they all achieved their certification with excellent scores.
Well done and congratulations to everyone!
r10 Consulting visit
One of our strategic partners, r10 Consulting, visited our office in Derry to meet the team and to brief and prepare them for the commercial insurance London Market that they serve. The team really enjoyed the team building evening sponsored by r10.
We very much look forward to a successful working relationship!
Since opening in the city, we have been extremely happy to have been approached by and get involved with many wonderful organisations.
We continue to strengthen our relationship with NWRC and the University of Ulster, so we can support future graduates to become work ready. We’re also glad to use this platform to discuss future opportunities for placement students and employment.
We have joined the Digital and Creative Subgroup organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council. This is a fantastic initiative aimed at promoting and supporting IT and tech education at primary and post primary level, with the end goal of producing students who are well informed and equipped for a career in an increasingly tech driven world.
We became an official member of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce and look forward to strengthening our relationships with local businesses.
“Bootcamp was conceived in early 2020 as a project simulation experiment to prime our people for that inevitable, often intimidating, transition to billable project work. It is a transition that, for many Developers, Testers, and Business Analysts alike, can be a proverbial baptism of fire. There had to be another way, a way of demystifying the project environment for the up-and-coming.”
On hearing that Alchemy was creating over 350 jobs in Derry, George took the plunge and decided to enrol on the Master’s in Professional Software Development at Magee, with a view to getting a place on the Academy.
